Singing I Am Redeemed from the American Cathedral in Paris to the Park Lane Nightclub in Gothenburg, Sweden, Jessy Dixon and his Chicago Community Choir have taken gospel to venues where the music has never been performed before. And the reception has been ecstatic.
Across Eastern Europe, into Scandinavia, in the Netherlands, Ireland, Great Britain, Italy, France, and in the USA, audiences have clapped their hands and stomped their feet to the exciting rhythms of the Chicago Community Choir and their dynamic leader, Jessy Dixon. So vibrant are the sounds of these Chicago musical nomads, secular artists have welcomed any opportunities to work with the group. The Choir and Dixon served as the opening act to the rock group Toto during their recent European tour.
Jessy Dixon and The Chicago Community Choir came together in 1992, when Dixon decided it was time to make his dream..taking gospel as created and performed by Thomas Dorsey and Mahalia Jackson to audiences world wide..come true.
A year later, Dixon and the Choir released their first recording, "We Give You Praise." The success of the effort was phenomenal. The CD produced several hits, with " I Am Redeemed" being the most successful. "We Give You Praise" has been on the Billboard magazine charts for over three years.
It is the success of " WE Give You Praise" that has allowed Jessy Dixon and the Chicago Community Choir to become a fixture on the music scene in the United States and Europe. No other American choir has taken gospel to such varied audiences as has Dixon.
